  2. Sludge: In crude oil carriers, Oil sediments settles at the bottom of the tanks in a thick layer called “Sludge”. When Crude Oil is discharged, this layer remains in the holds and if not cleared reduces the crude carrying capacity of the vessel. Prior to loading more Crude Oil, this thick crust has to be scrapped off and disposed.
  3. Slop: Mixture of oil and water is called “Slop”. Cargo tanks are washed after shipments or in case of cargo change, generating a mixture of oil and water.
